Smart Veneer™ (Injectable Veneer) - A New Technique in Composite Veneer
With the increasing popularity of cosmetic dentistry, procedures like dental veneers have seen significant advancements. Dental veneers are categorized into two materials: composite veneers and ceramic veneers. Composite veneers involve applying a resin-based composite material, similar to dental fillings (matching the tooth color), onto the tooth surface. Recently, there has been innovation and development in resin composite materials specifically designed for composite veneer procedures. These materials are widely used in the technique known as injectable veneers. Bangkok New Smile refers to this technique as Smart Veneer™.
What is Smart Veneer™ (Injectable Veneer)?
Smart Veneer™ is a new technique for dental veneers. It involves making a mold of the patient’s teeth to provide the framework to inject gel-like composite resin material into a clear mold that covers the existing tooth surface which hardens in the desired shape. This technique is minimally invasive and addresses issues like stained, discolored, or yellow teeth and can also fix minor problems such as gaps, chips, or slightly misaligned teeth. Additionally, it allows for minor reshaping of the teeth and can enhance tooth color to a whiter shade. Since the material is injected, it easily covers all the difficult areas that traditional direct composite veneers have trouble reaching. This provides a strong adherence and anchor to the tooth.
The Similarities and Differences
Smart Veneer™ (Injectable Veneer) VS Direct Composite Veneers
- Material Characteristics: Smart Veneer™ uses the same type of material as direct composite veneers, but the texture of the material is more fluid.
- Veneer Design Process: Smart Veneer™ requires a Smile Design process and Waxing Design for creating the veneer molds. In contrast, traditional composite veneers don’t involve a Smile Design step.
- Repairing Cracked Veneers: Cracked Smart Veneer™ can be repaired using the original molds. The overall shape of the veneer remains unchanged from the original veneer.
Smart Veneer™ (Injectable Veneer) VS Ceramic Veneers
- Different Materials: Ceramic veneers are made from ceramic or porcelain, while injectable veneers use composite resin material.
- Durability: Injectable veneers are more prone to chipping and cracking compared to ceramic veneers, and they have a shorter lifespan.
- Color and Aesthetics: Ceramic veneers offer a more natural teeth-like appearance, resembling natural teeth, and come in various shades. In contrast, the color of Smart Veneer™ tends to gradually change with usage and can be influenced by the patient’s diet and beverages.
- Smile Alterations: Injection veneers focus on covering the tooth’s color and minor imperfections, such as small chips or slight gaps. They cannot significantly alter the tooth’s shape, unlike ceramic veneers.
- Price Difference: Injection veneers are more affordable than ceramic veneers, making them suitable for individuals with budget constraints.
Smart Veneer™ (Injectable Veneer) Procedure
Just 3 simple visits to our dentist are required for the treatment:
- Consultation and Treatment Planning: Meet with the dentist for examination, treatment planning, and selection of material color. Choose the desired tooth shape. The dentist will provide sample images for your reference before making a decision. Afterward, tooth impressions are taken for designing the veneer (Wax-up model).
- Teeth Preparation and Bond Your Veneers: One week later, you will have another appointment with the dentist for teeth preparation. The dentist will prepare the teeth surface for applying the composite material, matching the modeled shape and shade. This process takes approximately 3 hours for 8 teeth.
- After Veneer Placement (1 week later): A follow-up appointment is scheduled for the dentist to assess the functionality of the veneers and make additional adjustments if necessary.
Note: For enhanced treatment results, in some cases, the dentist might recommend teeth cleaning, fillings, or scaling and polishing before the Smart Veneer™ procedure. Additionally, after the Smart Veneer™ (Injectable Veneer) treatment, it might be necessary to wear a Night Guard to prevent veneer chipping or breakage.
